At its heart are the production of and distribution of cement, aggregates (crushed stone, gravel and sand) - key basic material for the construction industry. We also produce ready-mix concrete, concrete elements and concrete products as well as asphalt and provide related services.
Holcim Product & Services
Cement
Cement is made by grinding clinker to a fine powder, which produces traditional Portland cement. When mixed with sand, gravel or crushed stone and water, cement acts as the binding agent to make concrete.
Holcim offers customers a wide range of cementitious materials as well as developing customized blends for special applications. Cement production is both resource- and energy-intensive. Our commitment to improving eco-efficiency is based on a holistic view of the entire process, from the manufacture of the product to its use and recycling.
Aggregates
Aggregates include crushed stone, gravel and sand. Aggregates are the main component by volume of concrete, and are used in many other applications.
Aggregates are mainly used in the manufacture of ready-mix concrete, concrete products and asphalt, as well as for road building and railway tracks. Production of aggregates centers on quarrying, preparing and sorting the raw material. Holcim is placing increasing emphasis on the recycling of aggregates from concrete demolition material.
Other construction materials and services
In addition to our core activities in cement and aggregates, Holcim produces and distributes ready-mix concrete and concrete products, and offers environmental services focused on waste management and alternative fuels
